Public Health Research Methods Training Course

Course Overview

The Public Health Research Methods Training Course is designed to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in planning, designing, conducting, analyzing, and reporting public health research. In an era characterized by emerging diseases, health inequalities, environmental challenges, and increasing demand for evidence-based healthcare interventions, public health professionals require strong research competencies to generate reliable evidence that informs policy, improves healthcare systems, and enhances population health outcomes. This course equips participants with modern public health research methodologies, epidemiological approaches, biostatistical techniques, and analytical tools necessary for high-quality research and evidence generation.

The course provides an in-depth understanding of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method research designs used in public health investigations. Participants will learn how to formulate research questions, develop conceptual frameworks, conduct literature reviews, design surveys, implement sampling techniques, collect high-quality data, and apply statistical and qualitative analytical approaches. Emphasis is placed on ethical considerations, scientific rigor, data quality assurance, and the application of research findings to strengthen public health programs and policies.

Through practical exercises, real-world datasets, and applied case studies, participants will gain hands-on experience in using modern research tools and analytical software including Excel, SPSS, STATA, R, NVivo, KoboToolbox, ODK, and GIS applications for public health research. The training focuses on translating research findings into actionable recommendations that support evidence-based interventions, disease prevention strategies, healthcare planning, and health systems strengthening.

The course combines expert presentations, practical workshops, web-based tutorials, collaborative group assignments, and case studies from global public health programs to ensure participants acquire practical competencies in research methodology and scientific inquiry. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to design and conduct high-quality public health research, analyze complex datasets, prepare scientific reports, and contribute effectively to evidence-based decision-making and sustainable public health development.
