Women, Peace and Humanitarian Action Training Course

Course Overview

The Women, Peace and Humanitarian Action Training Course is a comprehensive professional development program designed to strengthen the capacity of government institutions, humanitarian organizations, United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations, women's rights organizations, peacebuilding institutions, security agencies, refugee management authorities, development partners, community-based organizations, and humanitarian practitioners to effectively integrate women's leadership, gender equality, conflict prevention, peacebuilding, protection, and humanitarian response into programs and policies. The course equips participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills in the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda, humanitarian action, gender-responsive programming, conflict analysis, mediation, peacebuilding, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, protection mainstreaming, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), humanitarian coordination, policy development, advocacy, localization, safeguarding, climate resilience, digital innovation, and evidence-based decision-making. Participants develop competencies to promote inclusive humanitarian action, strengthen women's leadership, enhance peacebuilding initiatives, and improve resilience in fragile and conflict-affected settings.

Women play a critical role in conflict prevention, peace negotiations, humanitarian response, disaster risk reduction, recovery, reconstruction, and sustainable development. However, women and girls are often disproportionately affected by armed conflict, forced displacement, humanitarian crises, gender inequality, violence, and social exclusion. International commitments increasingly recognize that sustainable peace and effective humanitarian action require meaningful participation and leadership of women at all levels of decision-making. This course introduces internationally recognized frameworks including the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and subsequent Women, Peace and Security (WPS) resolutions, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), Sphere Humanitarian Standards, Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Gender Policy, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS), Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA), Results-Based Management (RBM), and localization principles. Participants learn practical approaches for integrating gender equality, protection, conflict sensitivity, women's empowerment, and peacebuilding into humanitarian and development programming.

Throughout the course, participants gain practical experience in gender analysis, conflict analysis, women's leadership development, humanitarian coordination, community engagement, peacebuilding strategies, mediation techniques, GBV risk mitigation, protection assessments, humanitarian needs assessments, inclusive project design, donor compliance, advocacy planning, digital communication, stakeholder engagement, policy formulation, MEAL systems, monitoring gender outcomes, and organizational capacity strengthening. Practical exercises, simulations, negotiation role plays, field scenarios, group discussions, collaborative projects, case studies, and humanitarian examples strengthen participants' analytical, technical, managerial, coordination, leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills while promoting accountability, inclusion, safeguarding, organizational learning, resilience, and sustainable peace.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will possess the strategic, technical, and leadership competencies required to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate gender-responsive humanitarian and peacebuilding programs that strengthen women's leadership, improve protection, promote conflict prevention, enhance humanitarian effectiveness, increase accountability, and support sustainable peace and resilience. Organizations will benefit from improved program quality, stronger gender mainstreaming, enhanced donor confidence, increased stakeholder participation, strengthened institutional capacity, greater operational effectiveness, and sustainable humanitarian impact.
