Course Overview

The Humanitarian Risk Management Training Course is designed to equip humanitarian professionals, emergency response coordinators, project managers, program managers, government officials, NGO leaders, UN agency personnel, monitoring and evaluation specialists, finance officers, security managers, and development practitioners with the knowledge, practical skills, and strategic competencies required to identify, assess, mitigate, monitor, and manage risks across humanitarian programs and emergency operations. Increasingly complex humanitarian crises driven by armed conflict, climate change, disease outbreaks, forced displacement, political instability, cyber threats, financial uncertainty, and operational disruptions require organizations to adopt proactive and integrated Humanitarian Risk Management approaches. This course provides comprehensive training in Humanitarian Risk Management, enterprise risk management, humanitarian security management, disaster risk reduction, business continuity planning, crisis management, results-based management, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), humanitarian information management, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), digital risk monitoring systems, Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP), risk governance, organizational resilience, and operational continuity to strengthen preparedness, emergency response, resilience, accountability, and sustainable humanitarian outcomes.

Participants will develop practical competencies in humanitarian risk identification, context analysis, risk assessment methodologies, risk registers, scenario planning, vulnerability analysis, operational risk management, financial risk management, procurement risk assessment, safeguarding, fraud prevention, security risk management, compliance monitoring, business continuity planning, emergency preparedness, digital data collection using KoboToolbox and ODK, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Artificial Intelligence applications for predictive risk analysis, Microsoft Excel risk analysis, Power BI dashboards, organizational learning, and continuous risk improvement. Through practical exercises, simulations, scenario analyses, interactive workshops, and real-world humanitarian case studies, participants will strengthen their ability to make informed decisions, reduce operational disruptions, protect humanitarian assets, ensure staff safety, maintain donor compliance, and enhance humanitarian effectiveness.

The course also explores internationally recognized humanitarian and risk management frameworks, including ISO 31000 Risk Management, Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), Sphere Humanitarian Standards, OECD DAC Evaluation Criteria, Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Guidelines, Results-Based Management (RBM), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), humanitarian principles, safeguarding, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), localization, disability inclusion, gender-responsive programming, ethical leadership, organizational governance, internal control systems, digital transformation, innovation, institutional strengthening, and continuous organizational learning.
