Course Overview

The Evidence-Based Humanitarian Programming Training Course is designed to equip humanitarian professionals, development practitioners, government officials, emergency response coordinators, monitoring and evaluation specialists, humanitarian researchers, and program managers with the knowledge, practical skills, and strategic competencies required to design, implement, monitor, and improve humanitarian interventions using high-quality evidence. Effective Evidence-Based Humanitarian Programming enables organizations to make informed decisions, improve accountability, optimize resource allocation, strengthen donor confidence, and maximize humanitarian outcomes for crisis-affected populations. This course provides comprehensive training in evidence-based humanitarian programming, humanitarian needs assessment, humanitarian research, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), results-based management, humanitarian information management, impact evaluation, program design, Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP), digital data collection, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), data analytics, humanitarian coordination, and adaptive programming to strengthen preparedness, response, recovery, resilience, and sustainable development.

Participants will develop practical competencies in evidence generation, humanitarian research methods, needs assessments, baseline studies, logical framework development, theory of change, indicator design, digital data collection using KoboToolbox and ODK, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Artificial Intelligence applications, SPSS, R, STATA, NVivo, Power BI, data quality assurance, statistical analysis, qualitative analysis, evidence synthesis, monitoring and evaluation, humanitarian reporting, policy analysis, adaptive management, learning systems, and decision-support frameworks. Through practical exercises, simulations, group assignments, and real-world case studies, participants will strengthen their ability to integrate evidence into humanitarian planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, organizational learning, and policy development to improve humanitarian effectiveness and accountability.

The course also explores internationally recognized humanitarian and evidence-based programming frameworks, including the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), Sphere Humanitarian Standards, OECD DAC Evaluation Criteria, Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Guidelines, Results-Based Management (RBM), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), humanitarian principles, ethical research standards, safeguarding, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), gender-responsive programming, disability inclusion, localization, data protection, organizational governance, donor compliance, institutional strengthening, innovation, and continuous improvement. Participants will strengthen their understanding of integrated evidence management systems that promote transparency, accountability, resilience, innovation, and sustainable humanitarian programming.
