Growing challenges such as poverty, unemployment, climate change, food insecurity, environmental degradation, market instability, disasters, and economic inequality continue to threaten household livelihoods across rural and urban communities. Sustainable livelihood development requires integrated strategies that strengthen human, financial, natural, physical, and social capital while promoting inclusive economic growth and resilience. This course provides practical knowledge on livelihood assessments, household economic analysis, entrepreneurship, microenterprise development, agricultural productivity improvement, vocational skills development, climate adaptation, access to finance, market linkage development, cooperative management, business planning, monitoring systems, and sustainability planning. Through practical workshops, simulation exercises, field-based assignments, business development sessions, and real-world case studies, participants develop competencies to implement livelihood interventions that increase income, strengthen resilience, and improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations.
The training integrates internationally recognized development frameworks and best practices including the Sustainable Livelihoods Framework (SLF), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Results-Based Management (RBM), Logical Framework Approach (LFA), Theory of Change (ToC), Community-Driven Development (CDD), Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), Value Chain Development Approach, Financial Inclusion Frameworks, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), gender mainstreaming, social inclusion, monitoring and evaluation systems, resilience programming, and organizational learning approaches. Participants strengthen their ability to collaborate with governments, humanitarian organizations, donor agencies, financial institutions, private sector organizations, producer organizations, cooperatives, and local communities to implement sustainable livelihood initiatives that generate lasting socio-economic impact.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will possess practical skills to conduct livelihood assessments, design income-generating programs, strengthen value chains, promote entrepreneurship, facilitate access to finance, support climate-resilient livelihoods, monitor livelihood performance, evaluate development outcomes, and prepare sustainable livelihood development strategies. The course combines expert facilitation, practical demonstrations, collaborative learning, simulation exercises, field assignments, organizational assessments, and action-oriented case studies to ensure participants acquire competencies applicable across government institutions, humanitarian organizations, development agencies, donor-funded programs, financial institutions, civil society organizations, research institutions, and international development organizations.
