DHIS2 Data Management and Analysis Training Course

Course Overview

The DHIS2 Data Management and Analysis Training Course is designed to equip participants with practical skills and technical competencies in the implementation, management, analysis, visualization, and utilization of health information data using District Health Information Software 2 (DHIS2). DHIS2 has become one of the world's leading open-source Health Management Information Systems (HMIS), widely adopted by ministries of health, international development agencies, healthcare institutions, and non-governmental organizations for disease surveillance, routine health reporting, monitoring and evaluation, and evidence-based decision-making. This course provides participants with comprehensive knowledge of DHIS2 architecture, data management processes, and advanced analytical techniques required for effective health information management.

The course provides an in-depth understanding of DHIS2 data collection mechanisms, metadata management, indicator configuration, data quality assurance, dashboards, data visualization, and analytics applications. Participants will learn how to design and configure organizational units, create data elements and indicators, manage reporting systems, and perform advanced data analysis to support healthcare planning, program monitoring, and policy development. Emphasis is placed on transforming health data into actionable intelligence that supports health systems strengthening and improved healthcare outcomes.

Participants will gain practical experience using DHIS2 analytics tools including pivot tables, charts, dashboards, GIS mapping functionalities, and event tracking applications. The course also covers interoperability frameworks, integration with other health information systems, disease surveillance systems, performance monitoring frameworks, and data governance principles. Real-world case studies and practical exercises enable participants to apply analytical techniques to routine health information management challenges and public health decision-making scenarios.

The training adopts a highly participatory and practical learning approach that combines presentations, guided demonstrations, hands-on exercises, simulations, web-based tutorials, group assignments, and practical case studies. Upon successful completion of the training, participants will possess the competencies required to manage DHIS2 implementations effectively, improve data quality, conduct advanced health data analyses, develop interactive dashboards and reports, and facilitate evidence-based decision-making within healthcare organizations and development programs.
