Road and Highway GIS Systems Training Course

Introduction

Road and Highway GIS Systems is an advanced training course designed to equip professionals with practical skills in the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, geospatial analytics, transportation planning, highway asset management, and intelligent transportation systems. Modern road and highway infrastructure requires accurate spatial data, real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and efficient decision-support systems to support planning, construction, maintenance, safety, and sustainable transportation development. This course provides participants with comprehensive knowledge of geospatial technologies used in road and highway management across local, regional, and national transportation networks.

The course covers the integration of GIS, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), remote sensing, drone mapping, transportation databases, traffic analysis, route optimization, and infrastructure monitoring systems. Participants will learn how to collect, process, analyze, and visualize spatial data for transportation planning, road network analysis, pavement management, corridor studies, highway design support, and traffic management. The course emphasizes the role of GIS in enhancing transportation efficiency, reducing operational costs, and improving infrastructure resilience.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in creating road network databases, conducting spatial analysis, evaluating transportation performance, mapping transportation assets, and developing web-based GIS solutions for transportation agencies. The course also explores emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Digital Twins, Internet of Things (IoT), and Smart Mobility Systems that are transforming transportation management worldwide. Practical exercises and case studies enable participants to apply geospatial techniques to real-world transportation challenges.

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to design, implement, and manage GIS-based road and highway systems, support transportation planning and decision-making, improve road maintenance operations, enhance traffic safety, and optimize transportation infrastructure investments. The course provides valuable competencies for professionals involved in transportation engineering, highway management, urban planning, and infrastructure development.
