3D City Modeling and Visualization is an advanced training program designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and technical skills in the development, management, analysis, and visualization of three-dimensional urban environments using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Building Information Modeling (BIM), photogrammetry, LiDAR, drone mapping, and 3D geospatial technologies. As cities continue to grow and become more complex, planners, engineers, architects, infrastructure managers, and policymakers increasingly require realistic digital representations of urban environments to support planning, development, infrastructure management, disaster preparedness, and smart city initiatives. This course provides participants with comprehensive expertise in 3D spatial data acquisition, modeling, visualization, simulation, and urban analytics for enhanced decision-making and sustainable urban development.
The course introduces participants to modern techniques for creating and managing 3D city models using satellite imagery, aerial photography, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), LiDAR datasets, BIM data, GPS surveys, and geospatial databases. Participants will learn how to collect, process, integrate, and visualize 3D spatial information to represent buildings, transportation networks, utility infrastructure, terrain models, vegetation, and urban landscapes. Through practical exercises and case studies, participants will gain hands-on experience in 3D modeling workflows, digital terrain modeling, city visualization, spatial analysis, urban simulations, and web-based 3D GIS applications.
Organizations involved in urban planning, smart city development, infrastructure management, transportation, environmental planning, emergency response, land administration, and construction increasingly rely on 3D city models to improve planning accuracy, stakeholder engagement, and operational efficiency. This course develops participants’ competencies in 3D geospatial data management, urban visualization, digital twin development, urban simulation, infrastructure analysis, and geospatial decision support systems. Participants will explore how emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), cloud GIS, and digital twins are transforming urban planning and city management.
By combining theoretical foundations with practical applications, this training empowers participants to design and implement 3D city modeling and visualization solutions that support sustainable urban growth, infrastructure planning, disaster risk management, and smart governance. Participants will acquire the skills required to create realistic 3D city models, conduct urban analyses, develop visualization platforms, generate interactive maps, and support evidence-based planning decisions. Upon successful completion, participants will be able to utilize advanced geospatial technologies to improve urban management, stakeholder communication, and city resilience.
