Strategic Disaster Risk Management and Gender Inclusion Training Course

Course Introduction

Strategic Disaster Risk Management and Gender Inclusion is an advanced professional training course designed to equip disaster risk management professionals, climate change practitioners, gender specialists, humanitarian actors, policymakers, development experts, emergency response personnel, and institutional leaders with the knowledge and practical skills required to develop and implement inclusive disaster risk management strategies. As climate change, environmental degradation, urbanization, and socio-economic vulnerabilities increase the frequency and severity of disasters worldwide, organizations and governments must adopt proactive and gender-responsive approaches to disaster preparedness, prevention, mitigation, response, recovery, and resilience building. This course provides participants with strategic frameworks, tools, and methodologies for integrating gender equality and social inclusion into disaster risk management systems and climate resilience initiatives.

The course explores the interconnections between disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, resilience building, gender equality, humanitarian response, sustainable development, environmental management, governance, and social protection. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of international frameworks such as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Paris Agreement, National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), National Disaster Risk Management Strategies, and Gender Action Plans. The training emphasizes the importance of understanding differentiated vulnerabilities, capacities, and needs of women, men, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups in disaster-prone environments.

Participants will develop practical competencies in strategic disaster risk assessment, gender-sensitive vulnerability analysis, emergency preparedness planning, resilience programming, risk governance, disaster financing, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation, and institutional strengthening. The course focuses on evidence-based decision-making, community-based disaster risk management, inclusive policy development, early warning systems, recovery planning, and adaptive management approaches. Through practical exercises and real-world case studies, participants will gain the skills needed to design effective disaster risk management programs that promote resilience, reduce vulnerability, and strengthen social inclusion.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to formulate strategic disaster risk management frameworks, integrate gender-responsive approaches into disaster planning and response, strengthen institutional resilience, improve emergency preparedness systems, and support sustainable recovery and development outcomes. The course combines expert facilitation, practical simulations, group discussions, policy analysis, strategic planning exercises, and case studies to ensure participants acquire actionable competencies applicable across government agencies, humanitarian organizations, NGOs, development institutions, donor agencies, and community resilience programs.
