Course Introduction

Climate Change Risk Assessment with a Gender Lens is a specialized training course designed to equip climate change practitioners, environmental specialists, gender experts, project managers, policymakers, humanitarian professionals, development practitioners, and monitoring and evaluation officers with advanced knowledge and practical skills for conducting comprehensive climate risk assessments that integrate gender considerations. Climate change presents diverse risks to communities, ecosystems, livelihoods, infrastructure, and economies; however, these risks are not experienced equally. Women, men, girls, and boys often face different vulnerabilities, capacities, and adaptation opportunities due to social, economic, cultural, and institutional factors. This course provides participants with practical methodologies for identifying, analyzing, and addressing climate-related risks through gender-responsive approaches that promote resilience, inclusion, and sustainable development.

The course examines the intersection of climate change, gender equality, disaster risk reduction, environmental sustainability, climate adaptation, social inclusion, and resilience building. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of climate hazards, exposure, sensitivity, adaptive capacity, vulnerability assessments, and risk management frameworks while incorporating gender analysis into every stage of the assessment process.
