Introduction

The training is essential in the development of better understanding of the concepts of statistics. It will provide the participants with a general idea of computer assisted data analysis. Additionally, the training will also focus on developing skills that are crucial to the transformation of data using SPSS.

Course Objectives:

The course will;

·         Introduce participants to SPSS as a data analysis tool.

·         Introduce survey data as a key quantitative resource for social science research;

·         Provide essential skills of data manipulation including selecting sub-sets, selecting cases,  data transformation using the recode function and sorting data

·         Introduce common operations with data: introduction to the SPSS user interface, definition of variables (string, numeric, date, coma, dot and scientific notation; scale, ordinal and categorical variables) and data coding,

·         Introduce basic statistics for exploratory data analysis including methods for describing and summarizing variable distributions;

·         Introduce generating of tables, scatter graphs, bar charts, histograms and performing cross-tabulations,

·         Examine relationships between variables (Non-parametric tests like chi-square and comparison of means, testing for reliability (Chronbach’s alpha), Pearson and Spearman correlation, partial correlation, chi square test for association)

·         Introduce Simple and Multiple regression analysis

·         Introduce interpretation of correlation and regression outputs

Duration

4 days

Who should attend?
