Community Health Volunteers Management Training Course

Course Overview

The Community Health Volunteers Management Training Course is designed to equip health professionals, community health supervisors, program managers, government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), humanitarian organizations, and development practitioners with the knowledge and practical skills required to effectively recruit, train, supervise, motivate, coordinate, and retain Community Health Volunteers (CHVs). Community Health Volunteers are essential in strengthening primary healthcare systems, improving disease prevention, promoting health education, supporting maternal and child health, responding to public health emergencies, enhancing community surveillance, and advancing universal health coverage. This course provides comprehensive knowledge on community health systems, volunteer management, leadership, performance improvement, supportive supervision, digital health tools, monitoring and evaluation, and evidence-based decision-making to improve the quality and sustainability of community health services.

Participants will develop practical competencies in workforce planning, volunteer recruitment and selection, competency-based training, supportive supervision, mentorship, performance management, community mobilization, health promotion, behavior change communication, referral systems, health information management, and community engagement. The course emphasizes the integration of Community Health Volunteers into national health systems, primary healthcare strategies, disease surveillance, immunization programs, nutrition initiatives, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), maternal and newborn health, mental health, non-communicable diseases, and emergency preparedness. Through practical exercises, role-playing, simulations, collaborative learning, and real-world case studies, participants will learn how to establish high-performing community health volunteer programs that deliver measurable public health outcomes.

The course also explores emerging topics including digital community health, mobile health (mHealth), community-based surveillance, outbreak preparedness and response, quality improvement, data-driven decision-making, volunteer motivation and retention, leadership development, gender-responsive community health programming, safeguarding, health financing, and partnerships with local governments and communities. Participants will gain practical skills in developing volunteer management policies, monitoring performance indicators, strengthening accountability mechanisms, promoting ethical conduct, and ensuring continuous learning and professional development among Community Health Volunteers. The training aligns with international public health standards, primary healthcare strategies, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to strengthen resilient and inclusive health systems.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will possess the expertise to establish, manage, supervise, monitor, and evaluate Community Health Volunteer programs that improve health service delivery, strengthen community participation, enhance disease prevention, and promote sustainable community health outcomes. Organizations will benefit from improved workforce performance, enhanced community trust, stronger primary healthcare systems, increased service coverage, improved health information systems, strengthened emergency preparedness, enhanced donor confidence, and sustainable community health programs that improve population health and resilience.
