Refugee and Displacement Management Training Course
Introduction
The Refugee and Displacement Management Training Course is a comprehensive professional development program designed to equip humanitarian professionals, government officials, development practitioners, and emergency responders with the knowledge, technical expertise, and practical skills required to effectively manage refugee situations, internally displaced persons (IDPs), asylum seekers, returnees, and host community interventions. The course focuses on refugee protection, displacement management, humanitarian coordination, camp coordination and camp management (CCCM), emergency preparedness, durable solutions, humanitarian assistance, protection mainstreaming, livelihoods, social inclusion, legal frameworks, and sustainable recovery. Participants will strengthen their competencies in planning, coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating displacement response programs while ensuring compliance with international humanitarian standards and refugee protection principles.
The increasing number of refugees and internally displaced populations resulting from armed conflicts, climate change, disasters, persecution, political instability, and environmental degradation has intensified the need for skilled professionals capable of managing complex humanitarian emergencies. This course provides practical knowledge on international refugee law, displacement risk assessment, emergency shelter management, humanitarian logistics, registration and documentation systems, protection of vulnerable populations, gender-based violence prevention, child protection, community engagement, humanitarian information management, resource mobilization, and multi-sectoral humanitarian coordination. Through practical exercises, simulations, and case-based learning, participants develop the capacity to coordinate comprehensive displacement responses that protect lives, uphold human dignity, and promote resilience.
The training integrates internationally recognized humanitarian frameworks and best practices including the 1951 Refugee Convention, the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement, humanitarian principles, Sphere Standards, Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), humanitarian cluster coordination, emergency operations management, humanitarian needs assessments, protection monitoring, accountability to affected populations, durable solutions programming, disaster risk reduction, social cohesion, and recovery planning. Participants will acquire practical skills for managing displacement settings, strengthening institutional preparedness, improving coordination among humanitarian actors, and supporting sustainable integration, voluntary repatriation, local integration, or resettlement initiatives.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to design, coordinate, implement, monitor, and evaluate effective refugee and displacement management programs while promoting protection, inclusion, accountability, resilience, and sustainable development. The course combines expert facilitation, practical workshops, humanitarian simulations, collaborative group work, field-based case studies, policy analysis, and action planning to ensure participants acquire practical competencies applicable across governments, United Nations agencies, humanitarian organizations, non-governmental organizations, development institutions, and community-based organizations working in refugee and displacement contexts.
