GIS for Monitoring and Evaluation Training Course

Introduction

The GIS for Monitoring and Evaluation Training Course is designed to provide professionals with advanced knowledge and practical skills in applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spatial analytics, remote sensing, data visualization, and geospatial intelligence to Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) systems. As governments, non-governmental organizations, development agencies, humanitarian institutions, research organizations, and private sector entities increasingly adopt results-based management approaches, there is a growing need for location-based data analysis to improve project planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and impact assessment. This course equips participants with the expertise required to integrate GIS technologies into monitoring and evaluation frameworks for evidence-based decision-making and improved program performance.

Modern monitoring and evaluation systems require accurate, timely, and spatially referenced data to assess project outcomes, track service delivery, monitor resource utilization, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and identify geographic disparities. GIS provides powerful tools for mapping project locations, visualizing development indicators, conducting spatial analysis, monitoring progress, and communicating results through interactive maps and dashboards. Participants will learn how to integrate geospatial data with M&E indicators to generate actionable insights that support accountability, transparency, learning, and adaptive management.

The course explores advanced applications of GIS in development projects, humanitarian programs, public health initiatives, agricultural development, infrastructure projects, environmental management, education programs, social protection systems, and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) monitoring. Participants will gain practical experience in spatial database development, mobile data collection, geospatial analysis, impact evaluation, dashboard creation, and reporting using industry-standard GIS and M&E tools. Special emphasis is placed on results-based management, logical frameworks, theory of change, performance measurement, geospatial monitoring systems, and data-driven decision-making.
