Urban Disaster Preparedness Mapping Training Course

Urban Disaster Preparedness Mapping is a specialized training program designed to equip participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills in the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, disaster risk management technologies, geospatial analytics, emergency planning tools, and spatial decision-support systems for disaster preparedness and resilience in urban environments. As cities face increasing risks from floods, earthquakes, fires, disease outbreaks, industrial accidents, climate change impacts, infrastructure failures, and other hazards, governments, municipalities, humanitarian agencies, and emergency management organizations require robust geospatial solutions to enhance disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and resilience. This course provides participants with practical expertise in hazard mapping, vulnerability assessment, emergency planning, risk analysis, disaster monitoring, and urban resilience planning.

The course introduces participants to modern disaster preparedness mapping methodologies using satellite imagery, UAVs, GPS technologies, LiDAR data, demographic datasets, infrastructure inventories, environmental information, and geospatial databases. Participants will learn how to collect, integrate, analyze, and visualize disaster-related data to identify hazard-prone areas, assess vulnerabilities, map critical infrastructure, evaluate evacuation routes, and support emergency response operations. Through practical exercises and real-world case studies, participants will gain hands-on experience in urban hazard mapping, disaster risk assessment, emergency resource allocation, crisis monitoring, and resilience planning.

Organizations involved in disaster risk reduction, emergency management, urban planning, humanitarian response, public safety, infrastructure development, environmental management, and climate adaptation increasingly rely on GIS technologies to improve preparedness and strengthen resilience. This course develops participants’ competencies in disaster analytics, spatial modeling, emergency preparedness planning, hazard assessment, infrastructure risk analysis, and geospatial intelligence.
